Social distancing of at least 1 meter. How will this impact your office setup?
Movement Control Order (MCO) is Malaysia is coming to the end on the 12 May 2020. In fact some states already started the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) last week with selected industries are allowed to reopen for business. But for Sabahans. 11 May 2020 probably will be the day when most businesses will reopen for business. It’s time to report back to office.
BUT HERE’S THE QUESTIONS:
Is your current office setup allow everyone to be back in the office?
How will you restructure the location of each desk?
These might be main issue business owners likely to face when they are back in office next week. What would be the potential solutions?
- Will you be looking for a larger office space to accommodate your staff?
- Restructure the size of employees?
- Encouraging work from home for certain departments?
- or a combination of any of the solutions stated?
If you have already have excess of staff before MCO, restructuring of staff might be a good option, but do take into consideration it will affect the team morale seeing their colleagues being ask to leave. And those who stay might think differently when will be their turn.
If your company doesn’t require all workers to be in the office all the time, then working from home will be one of the best solutions. Meetings can be done via online meeting platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GoToMeeting, Google Meet, DingTalk, etc. The you will be able to save up spaces and even distance your staff more than the recommended 1 meter.
Or if relocation to a bigger office space is a better option for now and for future expansion, then going back to your tenancy agreement will probably be your next task. If the tenancy are expiring or already expired, you can start looking a new office. During this period, finding a suitable office space at a right rental for you might not be a big issue, considering many businesses being affected and forced to closed down and commercial property owners are eager to find a replacement tenant. You may start your search here too:
Either way, I wish business owners all the best. Remember to stay safe, stay healthy and keep a distance.
